I do not take many pictures of targets at still target shoots but here is one of Doris' that she shot in competition at the Rocky Knoll Club in Abbeville, SC on May 29, 2010.

It's at least one of the better 20 gauge targets that I saw, so it might not be representative of all the targets shot.

The only thing that really counts at these events is the 3" circle of course but all of us who shoot at these events will usually look at the surrounding pattern to see what we need to do to get more in the target. I've not tried to count the holes in this one but there are pellets to the top, bottom, left and right of the 3" center target.




Shooter: Doris Bush

Distance: 40 yards from the muzzle of the gun

Shotgun: Remington 870 Express shotgun with a 26" barrel

Choke:  20 Gauge SSX Turkey Choke

Shells: 3" Federal Flitecontrol Wad shells with 1.50 oz. of #6 Heavyweight shot at 1100 f.p.s.

I had not shot these shells in several months and Doris had never shot one. It was what we were furnished at the shoot however, so we made the best of it. We had to pattern our guns during the competition, not the best situation but it was what we had to do, so we did it.

Doris won the Women's Class and I won the 20 Gauge Open Class and of course that's always a good thing but more importantly, I think we saw that these shells would be a very viable turkey hunting load.
