How It Works

"The Don't Bite Me! Patch uses a patent pending technology and formulation to deliver ingredients into the user via a topical patch application.  Only two ingredients are in the patch, Vitamin B1 and Aloe. Simply apply one patch two hours prior to enjoying time outdoors(it takes that long to become effective).The Vitamin B1 then travels head to toe. The body's natural response to excess Vitamin B1 is to excrete it through the pores, covering up the carbon dioxide that we emit naturally. (Carbon dioxide is what attracts insects.) This process makes an invisible barrier around the body, making the user unattractive to insects. The Aloe serves as an anti-inflammatory agent, minimizing the reaction in the event you do experience a bite.  The topical patch application is what makes the formulation so effective. Taking Vitamin B1 orally does not deliver the same effect as our patch, because the stomach breaks down the Vitamin B1 prior to it entering the bloodstream, triggering a loss in efficiency. The topical patch application provides a much more effective and consistent release of Vitamin B1 into the body."

I spend a lot of time out of doors. We have acreage in Southern Illinois with an orchard, nut trees, grape arbors, blueberries, blackberries, gooseberries and we raise garden crops. I am also a bug magnet and have been for all of my life, thus far. I get bitten by mosquitoes, ticks, horseflies, and this year was the target of a Wheel Bug (Assassin Bug). I also get stung by wasps, hornets and the occasional yellow jacket.

When I read about the Don't Bite Me patch, I was ready to try it.

It happened that I was also getting ready for a couple of rather protracted shooting trips and that gave me an opportunity to try the patches in Illinois, Ohio, Tennessee, South Carolina and North Carolina. I don't know if bugs in different states act any differently but it was an opportunity to try them in different conditions and locations.

The instructions are pretty simple and direct. Put the patch on a hairless part of your body. For me that's the palms of my hand but I found that my upper arms worked just fine. You should have it on 2 hours prior to exposure to biting critters to allow the B-1 and aloe to get into your system. I found that right after a shower was the best time to apply. You can leave it on for 36 hours and get continuous protection. I did not have any skin irritation from the patch when I left it on that long.

The question: does it work? While I was wearing the Don't Bite Me patch, I did not have a bite anywhere, anytime. I was exposed to the same ticks, mosquitoes and horseflies at my range as always but not one time did I get bitten. When I forgot to put on the patch, you guessed it, I had a tick bite and a horsefly that would not leave me alone.

I also had enough patches to take with me to take to several shoots and hand them out to other shooters. Now most of these folks had already been out shooting by the time that I saw them. Some were very sweaty and had already been bothered by various bugs. Since one of these shoots was a 3-day affair, they tried them on days 2 & 3 and the ones that I was able to locate and talk to had good results.

From a shooter's perspective, it's good to have a product that does not contaminate your hands, skin or clothing. Like others, I've seen damage to stock finishes from spray repellents, plus they just stink! Don't Bite Me has no odor and there's nothing to damage the finish on a fine gun or that will damage any clothing.

Don't Bite Me worked for me and I'd recommend it to anyone who's a bug magnet or who's exposed to biting insects.
