MaXBox Magnetic Gun Rest

Product Tests

In a world of all kinds and shapes of gun rests, here's one that's really different...and in a good way.

When I first heard of the MaXBox Magnetic Gun Rest, I really wasn't sure what to expect. Magnetic and gun rest did not seem to be words that went together.

When it arrived and I removed it from the box, other than the little red dots that were centered on all 4 sides it was not all that impressive or that interesting. It turns out those little red dots cover the magnets and keep them from scratching metal.

The MaXBox is very  light weight and made from closed cell foam. It has slots for placing your long gun in all 4 sides with 4 different heights since all the slots are cut to different depths.

It was only when I actually started using it that it became interesting. Despite its light weight, it's very stable and a wide variety of guns fit into it very well.

I needed to mount a scope on a rifle and decided I'd give it a try for that. It provided a very stable base for my work and I have to say I was very pleasantly surprised.

Then I took it to the range to sight in that rifle and a couple of other guns that I wanted to check, after all it is a gun rest. It worked very well there too. The gun remained stable and using the different heights, I was able to get each gun on target very easily.

What about those magnets? They are really designed so that the MaXBox can be used on vehicle hoods and tops. I'm told it will stay secure at speeds up to 40 miles per hour but I did not test this feature. I did put the MaXBox on a steel bench and it kept it very stable.

So, how do I rate the MaXBox? It's a very good product, light weight, easy to transport, versatile and it works very well to keep your gun stable.
