Product Tested: Leupold VX-II 3-9 x 40 Shotgun Scope
I purchased 2 of these telescopic sights from a large catalog store in late 2004. I mounted 1 on a Remington 11-87 and 1 on a Remington 870. I use both of these guns for ammunition testing and for still target shooting competition.
In my ammo tests, I only fire 3" full-power loads. From late 2004 through the fall of 2005, I fired many thousahds of rounds through these guns in ammo tests. I also used them in many still target shoots, including the Grand American and the World Championship.
During the year I replaced several broken internal parts, I had sight bases shoot loose, screws, a magazine tube come loose and other less traumatic misfortunes. Not one time did I have any malfunction from either of the Leupolds!
In years past I've literally destroyed many other telescopic sights. Many were cheerfully replaced by the manufacturer, so I have no complaint about service. Unfortunately, several of those malfunctions occurred just before or during still target competitions. At times, I had to "guess" just where my gun was shooting. That's not a good thing!
The fact that Leupold builds a reliable scope won't come as news to most of you. Leupold has been around for years and has always had a lifetime guarantee on its products. What I really like about these scopes is the fact that I HAVEN'T HAD TO USE THAT GUARANTEE!
I paid about $300.00 each for these scopes, including shipping and each had a lens pen included. These scopes are quite reasonably priced, durable and just plain look great.
I give the Leupold VX-II Shotgun Scope a Five Star rating and my recommendation.
