This August will mark the 24th year of The World Championship Still Target Shoot. Some of the best still target shooters will gather for 2 days of intense shooting, with hopes of taking home the championship title.
The event this year marks a return to The Meadows Gun Club in Forsyth, Georgia, where it all began. There will be several hundred sporting clays shooters joined by still target shooters, vendors and gunsmiths ready to fill any needs. In short, it will be a gathering of shooters to celebrate our heritage of marksmanship. some will be shooting at flying clay targets and others will be shooting at a 3" red circle, 40 yards away. we;ll also have some shooters who do both.
Returning to its roots for both The Turkey Shoot and The Still Target World Championship (STWC), seems very appropriate. This was how it all began when the leadership of the National Wild Turkey Federation (NWTF) set out to promote the development of better shotguns, chokes and ammunition, that would cleanly kill a turkey at the maximum ethical distance of 40 yards.
The STWC has seen a lot of changes over the years with performance that the early creators of the event would have never imagined. Gun makers, choke manufacturers and ammunition makers have all responded to the call with greatly improved products. Shooters who participate in this event, especially in the Hunter classes, demonstrate what the average shooter and hunter can expect from their shotgun, using the same components.
Back to its roots. Could it get any better?
