I've been shooting a hunting model Mossberg 930 for several years. It's been an amazing shotgun in all respects. It's solid, fits me like a glove and has been totally reliable, even when I've not always kept it clean. As a matter of fact, one time I did not clean it for a season, just to see if it would keep on going. It did.
When I saw the 930 Snow Goose shotgun, I just had to have one. Maybe it was the memory of my first snow goose hunt on a very cold day in Southern Illinois, when the ground was covered by snow and ice. We were hunting on an old coal strip pit that had frozen over. We had a blind that was really just a few large rocks and a couple of tree limbs that my host had hauled over to the edge of the pit. It was very cold and we had a cutting wind in our faces as we waited for the geese to come our way. We were finally rewarded when a large flock came into shooting range.
I wish I'd had this snow goose gun then. The extra-capacity magazine would have been very welcome, since it holds 13 shells. Everything about this gun is made for the snow goose hunter, from the "Kryptek Yeti" camo to the oversized bolt handle. Like all 930s it also comes with the "shim kit" which allows you to customize the stock to fit your individual build.
I had an opportunity to take "Casper" as I've named this gun, to the range last week and put a few rounds down range. This gun is so quick! As quickly as I could pull the very good trigger, I was sending shot on its way down the bore. It was very easy to keep the muzzle on target, even after 4-5 rounds of 3" magnum shotshells fired as quickly as I could pull the trigger.
This gun also shot exactly to my point of aim, just using the front bead. I decided to put a turkey choke in it and see how it did with some 3" WLB shells at 40 yards. Again, with no sights, other than the front bead, I was able to hit a 2" dot at 40 yards. The gun just fits!
If you're a snow goose hunter or any other late season hunter where snow and ice are present, I'd recommend that you take a look at this shotgun. It has all the features of the reliable Mossberg 930 in a beautiful package that is sure to turn some heads.
