NSSF’s Director of Government Relations – State Affairs, Trevor Santos, represented NSSF and its members this week in South Carolina as Republican Gov. Henry McMaster held a signing ceremony for H. 3800 at the SCDNR James O. Thomas Firing Range in Spartanburg. House Bill 3800, sponsored by state Republican Rep. Bobby Cox and strongly supported by NSSF, builds on South Carolina’s already successful apprentice hunting license program by allowing an apprentice license to be purchased an unlimited amount of times. The apprentice license allows someone to go hunting without having to undergo hunter education, but while under the direct supervision of a licensed mentor hunter. This bill removes one of the many barriers associated with getting new people involved in hunting by creating a “try-before-you-buy” approach. NSSF thanks Rep. Cox for his leadership in spearheading this important hunter-recruitment legislation and Gov. McMaster for signing it into law.
